Vaishnavi Rao made her Bollywood debut in 2003 as a young performer in the movie Kal Ho Na Ho with Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Preity Zinta. She played the role of Monalisa Goswami in the 2018 YouTube short film Harmless.

Vaishnavi Rao made her television debut in 2004 as a kid performer on Hungama TV’s Loomba. She made an appearance in Golu Ke Goggles on StarPlus in 2006 as Renee. In the 2017 season of Rishton Ka Chakravyuh on StarPlus, Vaishnavi played Tanya Pandey. She is well-known for playing Mansi Anmol Aggarwal in the StarPlus television series Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (2018).

Together with Abhishek Nigam, Vaishnavi played Ruqaiya in the historical drama Akbar – Rakht Se Takht Tak Ka Safar from Big Magic in 2018. She portrayed Padma in the StarPlus television series Maharaj Ki Jai Ho in 2020.
