Career

Priya Ahuja is an Indian actress who has appeared in many Indian TV serials. She grew up in Delhi and moved to Mumbai to pursue an acting career. After finishing her studies, she did some corporate jobs. She always had an interest in the TV industry so she auditioned for some TV shows and ads in Mumbai and eventually landed a role in a TV series on DD National. Unfortunately, her parents were against this and brought her back to Delhi. To continue her dreams, she left home and went back to Mumbai. She didn’t have much money so she stayed at a friend’s place and slept in a kitchen because she didn’t have her apartment.

In 2008, she made her acting debut with the Hindi TV serial, ‘Hamari Betiyoon ka Vivah’ in which she played the role of Sanjana Malhotra. It was aired on Zee TV. In the same year, she appeared in the famous TV serial, ‘Taarak Mehta Ooltah Chashmah’ which is airing now in Sab TV where she played the role of Rita Reporter from Kal Tak. She became immensely popular and known in almost every household in India. She played the character for 14 years until she left in 2022.

Some of her other TV serials are ‘Chhajje Chhajje Ka Pyaar’ (2011), ‘Shubh Vivah’ (2012), ‘Ghum Hai Kisike Pyaar Mein’ (2020) etc. She also appeared in Sony TV drama shows ‘CID’ (2008) and ‘Adalat’ (2012). Why Priya Ahuja left TMKOC?

Priya’s husband, Malav Rajda was a part of Taarak Mehta Ooltah Chashmah for 14 years along with her. He left the show the previous year on 15th December after completing his last episode. While there have been rumors of Malav quitting the show due to differences with the producers of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, the director has clarified that his decision to leave the show is purely because he wants to “get out of his comfort zone” and “grow creatively.”

Although Priya never left the show, the makers never called her back and was removed because she was Malav’s wife. After not coming for three months, they argued and she left the show. Priya also shared that while she was in the show, she was treated unfairly. Priya remembered the time she got angry when the producer of the show, Asit Kumar Modi made a very sexist comment about her. She said, “Asit bhai has told me this many times, Malav is working so why do you have to worry? You should enjoy your life like a queen.”
