Catsouras and her parents had lunch together on October 31, 2006, in the Ladera Ranch, California, house where they all lived. After that, her mother Lesli stayed at home while her father Christos Catsouras went to work. Ten minutes later, Catsouras’ mother noticed the Porsche 911 Carrera that she was not allowed to drive, owned by Christos, backing out of the driveway. After Lesli phoned him, he started looking for his daughter while driving around. He supposedly called 9-1-1 minutes before to the crash while doing this and was placed on wait. The dispatcher told him about the accident when he was released off hold.

At around 1:38 pm, Catsouras was driving on the 241 Toll Road in Lake Forest when she struck a Honda Civic while attempting to pass it on the right at a speed of more than 100 mph (160 kph).[2] The Porsche struck an unmanned concrete toll booth close to the Alton Parkway intersection after crossing the wide middle of the road, which on that section is devoid of a physical barrier. The collision killed Catsouras instantly. Catsouras’ corpse had signs of cocaine, but no alcohol, according to toxicological examinations.

Lesli Catsouras stopped checking her email as a result of the images, which were shot by California Highway Patrol personnel and sent outside the agency. The younger sisters of Nikki were barred from using the Internet. The 16-year-old Danielle was removed from the classroom and sent home to be educated out of concern that her classmates could confront her about the images. The California Highway Patrol is being sued by the Catsouras family for allegedly disclosing photos of the accident site.
