Gaten began his career as an actor on a Broadway stage as Benjamin in Priscilla. His first professional work was in the Broadway musical Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. He made his screen acting debut in an episode of The Blacklist in 2015.

Gaten came to prominence after he played the role of Dustin Henderson in the popular fantasy series, Stranger Things. The show’s first part released in 2016 and the final part acme in 2022.
